Bye Week – Now What Do We Do?

Every week during the Patriots season is the same. For wins, I want to listen to everything WEEI and 98.5 The Sports Hub put out as podcasts. I rarely listen live, but they put a ton of stuff out “on demand” so I can get my fill – and can skip by the stuff that is too annyoying for me.

On Tuesday, I start getting the Patriots.com online radio shows. Primarily I listen to PFW in Progress (have been for years) but this year I also listent to the Bob Socci show.

Basically it follows that pattern for the entire week.

Then Sunday comes and I’m both confident and very nervous about my Patriots. The way the season started, you would think the sky is falling. The way it’s been the last few weeks – you’d think its a given that they’re back in the AFC Championship.

Well, isn’t it?

After Sunday’s thumping of Manning and the Broncos, I wanted them to play the next game on the next night. Come on! Let’s get more football! But alas it was the bye week, and it couldn’t have come at a better time – right near the middle. And you couldn’t go into it asking for much more.

If they play exactly as good as they did during the first half, they’ll be 14-4 – which of course can’t happen. So maybe 13-3?

And the thing is, I think they’ll play better in the second half.

But that doesn’t take away the fact that this Sunday, I don’t have those 3-4 hours of “sorry I can’t do anything, gotta go watch the game.” My wife is great about letting me go watch the game with my friend’s each week. My television is “okay” but my buddy’s is – a lot bigger than okay.

And that leads me to this Sunday. The bye week. There will be basically 12 straight hours of football and coverage, and I’ll pay attention as much as I can, but I won’t be sitting down for hours this Sunday.

Because we’re moving in a couple weeks. Yeah. Great.

So every free moment, and every free weekend is packing stuff up, moving stuff to the new place, setting stuff up at the new place. Rinse. Repeat.

And I don’t have a Patriots game to get in the way.

Luckily next Sunday they’ll be back – but it’s at night, so I’ll still have to be on-call for her all day.

Luckily the following Sunday it’s a 1:00pm game. Oh wait – that’s the day of the actual move….I hope we’re done quick and early. It’s not a lot of stuff, and it’s not a long drive. As long as the majority is done by 12:55pm, I’ll be happy.

But year, I doubt it.
