Okay, Revis is Gone. Now What?

Oh, I have no idea. I’m asking you. Now what?

It was fun while it lasted. There was always that worry that it would be a one time thing – but in the back of my mind I had that gut feeling that Darrelle Revis would be back with the Patriots for the 2015 season. Either the Pats would pay him that crazy amount with their team option, they would sign him to a longer-term contract, or they would do the former first and THEN work hard to get the latter done.

But yeah I was pretty much wrong on all fronts.

Patriots not picking up $20 million option in Darrelle Revis' contract; now set to become free agent Tuesday.

Okay, okay that’s not the worst thing ever. It sucks that it’s not definite that he’ll be back next year but okay this was not terribly unexpected. Hopefully they’ll work something out.

Yesterday was about as interesting as the NFL can get during the off-season. So many players finding new homes whether through trades or through free agency. Even one surprise retirement. Through all of this the best place to be for up to the second updates is twitter. It’s where all the news is broken and where all the “experts” do their best to be the first to report.

As a fan, I’m usually just watching Tweetdeck or refreshing my twitter app. Of course yesterday my wife had the day off and I got out of work early so we could go to the beach and walk our dog.

So while I’m out on Salisbury Beach (I know, I swear my dog and wife were there too) I barely have a phone signal and I’m being that annoying husband with his head buried into his cell phone, refreshing twitter over and over. I didn’t get fooled by any fake tweets by fake twitter accounts.

Unlike some people.

Sorry about the fake Rap.

No I just kept refreshing and the optimist in me kept saying – nothing is announced because they’re working on it. Right? Right?

Oh they were working on it all right – just the wrong they.

Again I found myself in a place with a bad signal. Watching my buddy’s son play basketball. By the way, have you ever watching a bunch of 9 and 10 year old kids play basketball? That along is kinda funny – but my God I was in front of the most annoying parents ever. They really, really cared about this dumb game. Sure, support your kid, but talk about adding pressure to these kids by literally yelling at the teenage refs.

Nine and 10 year old kids.

Stupid assholes.

Anyway, surprisingly my Virgin Mobile was one of the few phones that had a tiny sliver of service – so there I was refreshing Tweetbot – when this popped up.

Darrelle Revis' agents announce he has agreed to terms with the Jets.

Shit really.

@Revis24 signs for 5-year, $70M deal. Includes $39M FULLY guaranteed, $33M in the first two years. #Jets

I want to be like – oh the Patriots couldn’t match that. But couldn’t they?

I want to say, he was going to the Jets the entire time and no matter what the Pats did, the Jets would outbid them. Right?

I hope so. I hope the news says the Patriots did their best but the Jets outbid them at every turn.

I want to say – good. Good riddance. Enjoy sucking. But it sucks big time that a Hall of Fame talent, one that helped your team reach the top, was here. Could still have been here. Now is not here.

Now is the the J-E-T-S. Jets? Jets? Jets?

Good for the Jets I guess. Now a 4-12 team can hopefully reach that 6-10 pinnacle they so desperately are striving for.

The guy is great, and he’s known for getting the best deal and taking the best deal. And that’s what he did here. I can’t really blame him – he helped the Patriots get a ring. You have to respect that at least.

I want to thank the Pats and Pats Nation for an unbelievable year. NEW YORK I'm coming home. #revisisland #jetnation pic.twitter.com/KQE3Yc1orz

But what about the Patriots??? Was this part of the plan? Did they have a sense that he wasn’t coming back? Is there a plan? A plan B? Was this part of Plan A the entire time?

Couple guys told me they’re done with the Pats if Revis walks. And I am 100% certain they’ll be back watching every game this season and cheering them on like they always do. Pissed that this happened. But it happened. It’s over.

Now what?

Seriously, I am asking you all. Now what? If anybody actually read this – and a reply below telling me what you think the next step is. Or tweet us over at @fansnotexperts.
